Ms. Suhasini Vasisatha, is the founder of Sattva Legal Associates (SLA), a law firm based in J&K. SLA was firm established in July, 2014 and provides various legal solutions to its clients including handling public interest litigations, civil, criminal and corporate matters in the High Court of J&K as well as district courts throughout the State. SLA represents clients from across the country.
A 2010 law graduate, Ms. Vasisatha, was also a part of the prestigious Young India Fellowship programme under Ashoka University, in collaboration with University of Pennsylvania (USA), Carleton College (USA) and Sciences Po (Paris), which aims at producing young leaders who are committed socially conscious changing agents of diverse fields in India.
True to her training, she has been regularly engaged in diverse legal forums and seminars, conducting workshops and writing articles on several subjects including legal policy making, women’s rights as well as upliftment of the deprived sections of the society. Being the first female lawyer from the Village Majua Lakhmi, she has taken the responsibility of spreading awareness among people about their rights and make law accessible to underprivileged especially to the rural folk. She also works tirelessly with students in J&K who are not clear about the various opportunities available in this field by guiding and counselling them.
Right from the school days she has raised voice for student’s rights. She is currently the President of the NGO Urban and Rural India Development Front and has lead many of its major projects as a legal advisor. She is also been working for the rights of the scavengers, the most neglected section of Indian society. Her social ventures have been recognized and she has been awarded by the “Brave Lady Award” in 2008 as well as Young Social Change Maker Award in J&K in 2013.
