Workshop at Aligarh Muslim University

articleProject Abhimanyu along with the University Training & Placement Office (TPO) and the Department of Law at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) organised a one day workshop on Career Counselling on 24th February, 2017 at AMU. The workshop dealt with a number of topics including ‘Career Options available to a law graduates’, ‘pursuing a career in intellectual property laws in India’, ‘a career in taxation laws in India’ and ‘soft skills of a good lawyer’.

The workshop was conducted by Project Abhimanyu Mentors, Mr. Ramaswamy Subramaniam, Mr. Saurabh Kumar and Ms. Tarjana Rai. Ms. Tarjana Rai, who is a legal counsel at Snapdeal.com introduced Project Abhimanyu to the students and explained its objectives. She further took a session on the career options available to law graduates. Mr. Saurabh Kumar, the Managing Partner of SK Attorneys, a full service Delhi based law firm, conducted a session on the prospects of a career in taxation, litigation and advocacy in the current monetary and fiscal environment of our country. He delivered an inspiring lecture explaining the challenges and rewards of pursuing a career in taxation. Mr. Subramaniam Ramaswamy, the Founder of Medha Advisors and the Chairman of INBA (GC section), educated the students on the soft skills of a good lawyer. He also enlightened students on the challenges as well as opportunities of a career in Intellectual Property law. This was followed by a Q&A session.

The workshop was well received and was attended by close to 125 students including students of BA LLB, LLM and PhD courses as well as faculty members. Prof. Javaid Talib, the Dean Faculty of Law along with Prof Iqbal Ali Khan, Chairman Department of Law at AMU, encouraged building a meaningful relationship with Project Abhimanyu with an intention to make TPO Law a ‘platter for budding law graduates’. They encouraged students to seek guidance from Project Abhimanyu in forging their successful legal career. Prof. Zafar Nomani, TPO Law, remarked that Project Abhimanyu is a well sought after partner in heralding goals of justice, education and inclusive growth in India. Mr. Saad Hameed, University Training & Placement Officer shared that TPO Law is a priority for AMU and he expects it to come of age in the present globalised and competitive world.

Ms. Arshi Salauddin, Project Abhimanyu Representative at AMU and Student Coordinator of TPO, Law proposed the vote of thanks on behalf of the University.
