Mr. Santanu Mukherjee is Head of Chambers at Ex Lege Chambers, Advocates and Regulatory, Policy Advisors, a boutique law office. He is an Advocate and a commercial Mediator accredited with IIAM. He is also an accredited Neutral in the Principal Expert panel for TM & IP at the Mediation and Conciliation Network. With 20 years’ experience, he is engaged in ‘Statutory, Regulatory & Policy’; ‘Commercial Mediation’ and ‘Litigation’ practice, specializing in Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), Competition law and WTO Regulations.
Earlier he had been ‘Partner and Head of International Trade and Policy Advisory’ practice at Luthra & Luthra Law Offices, a tier-one full service Indian law firm. Before that he was a Senior Attorney at Qualcomm, managing their IPR, Competition law and policy issues for South Asia. He also worked at the South Centre, a Geneva-based Inter-Governmental Organization. He started as an Advocate at the Calcutta High Court working with the litigation practice teams of leading IP law firms.
Santanu obtained his Bachelor of Law from Calcutta University and Masters in International Law & Economics from the WTI, Bern, Switzerland. He read law at the University of Law, York, UK as a Chevening scholar. He also researched at the Max Planck Institute for IP & Competition Law in Munich, Germany, and twice have been fellow of the Global Salzburg Seminar in Austria. He had been a visiting lawyer at the Littleton Chambers, Inner Temple Bar, London and an intern at the IP Division, WTO, Geneva.
Santanu chairs the IPR Section of the Indian National Bar Association (INBA) and is a member of the International Bar Association. He sits on national committees of industry chambers, speaks regularly at national and international forums and lectures at law schools. He was awarded the IPR Lawyer of the year 2017 by the INBA.
